For the last couple of years, I've been GMing a Pathfinder game - we did some podcasting of it at one point! However, as other projects have been demanding more and more of my creative energy, I've been growing a little burned out on that. I needed a break, so I decided to suspend the campaign and pass the baton to a friend, giving me the opportunity to actually play for a bit. Definitely the right choice! I'm hoping that this will give me time to get back to games that are no less fun, but that I don't need to think about nearly as much when I'm not directly engaged with them. Running an RPG campaign can be a lot like writing a script or novel - there's a lot to keep track of, and you're constantly writing notes and re-organizing ideas. It's practically a job in itself, and it can take up valuable mental real estate which you need to get other things done - things like writing! I think I may also have finally reached the end of my Skyrim obsession after playing a number of hours which I refuse to disclose for fear that it might incriminate me. What's really scary is that I didn't even install a single mod and I managed to get a metric buttload of enterntainment out of it. However, the last few times I've had the opportunity to play I have passed it over for other things, so I may be ready to disengage completely from Tamriel and put more energy towards less purely digital pursuits. For instance: my wife and I made massive headway on cleaning out the basement over the last few weekends, and I've managed to get my model workshop organized and cleared so that I can once more do a little wargaming. In fact, this past sunday I was able to sit down for a few hours and break out some Victrix and Perry Miniatures 28mm Napoleonics that I've been dying to get into. I assembled a battery of 3 british artillery pieces and a troop of British line infantry - about 50 models in all. That leaves only about 300 more and I'll actually be able to play a game with them!
