Heroes

A secretive and bad-tempered man, in his youth Kells was sold into an apprenticeship to an abusive and hard-drinking wonder-worker. Though his experiences have gifted him with a sharp survival instinct and a great deal of arcane knowledge, his real power comes from a mysterious artefact which he unwittingly inherited upon his former master's demise. Just how the man met his end is something Kells has never properly explained.

Kells
The Justicar calls him an outlaw - but he says he is a man of faith. The bandit known around Cliffport as Eric The Wolf is a man driven by a desire for freedom as well as a thirst for revenge. When the Justicar of Kusken and his Katellan Priests swept through the Kingdom of Velagrad, subjugating all with fire and sword, Eric's family resisted. Remaining true to the Old Gods of the land, they took up arms against the Justicar's armies, though the fight proved hopeless. Eric saw those he loved put to the sword or burned as heretics, and though he did not come to manhood until the battles were all but over, he has vowed to continue the fight until his people are free once more. Now he preys upon the servants and lackeys of the new regime, barely scratching out a living as a highwayman while the price upon his head grows ever larger.

Eric
Among the farms and glens of the River Kolen, there are tales whispered by many a fireside about a young girl who walks alone among the trees at night. Few have seen more than a glimpse of her, but those that have speak of an innocent beauty that is touched by sadness somehow. She says little and never stays in one place for long. Some claim she is a witch, or a faerie, or Nymph, or even a ghost. Once in a while, a night-time traveller who passes by the Old Woods may hear a hauntingly beautiful voice drifting over the trees in sorrowful song. Should the traveller stop in Cliffport, and mention the incident in passing over a mug of ale at the inn, they would be told that they have heard the lament of the Lady of the Wood.

Nyssa
Josiat is Lord Brasten's reeve and the primary overseer of his estates and farms. Though Brasten himself may not openly lend aid to the foes of the Justicar, he often relies on Josiat to give aid to those who are the most oppressed. Josiat has helped Eric on many occasions, despite the fact that the penalty for harboring heretics is death.

Josiat
Lord Adolphus Brasten of Devil's Bay is the nominal authority over Eric's home town of Cliffport, however he retains little real power since the Justicar's armies subjugated his province. Though he makes no secret of his distaste for the current regime, Trask and Goth are loathe to do away with him, for he is a well liked and popular leader among the people, and his presence lends legitimacy to their occupation.

Lord Dolph Brasten
Jan is a highwayman, scoundrel, and knockabout who has sometimes worked with Eric. He was mortally wounded while helping to ambush a patrol.
